Things are tight this time of year with 5 kids(my partner and l both work!) so l really had to scrape to find the money for two winter coats for my 13 and12 year old. I got two great coats on e-bay. Friday the first day of wearing it my eldest comes come without his coat, lsay "where is it?" he says "The teacher wouldn't let me get it she says l will have to wait till monday". I was furious not only cos he'd just got it but because he had walked a mile home in minus 3 with no coat on.I rang the school straight away and said l wanted to know what the hell is going on and sent them a stinking e-mail saying it was no better than child abuse no one has answered either. Tomorrow is monday and l am getting ready to go into battle with the school am l overreacting or should l let them have it. He has been all weekend without a coat so couldn't go out with us.

I know kids can be economical with the truth so l sat him down and asked him to tell me the truth because if l go mad at the school and l'm wrong both of us will look foolish . He swears to me that it happened exatcly as he said ,he asked for the coat and was told he would have to wait till monday. I'm sure he is telling me the truth.

I'd see what the details are that led to the teacher saying that. Not to pick on the kids, but sometimes they can 'modify' the truth for best effect. If he lost it, or left it somewhere he shouldn't have, this could be a reason to give you a partial (or untrue) story. However, you should be prepared in case the story is literally true. Best suggestion is some advice I got long ago... Load for bear, but hope for rabbit. Best find out before biting anyone.
Hope this helps.

hi, no u r not at all wrong about giving them hell. why does that teacher have the right to take away a student's coat? is she crazy? i would have gone right in there that day but u couldn't so monday u should go right to the principal & let him or her know what happened. no matter if your kid was in the wrong for something she didn't have to take away the coat. i had a problem like that once & i called up the school & told them i was on my way in to give the teacher hell & she left before i got there. she did something wrong & i let her have it when i finally saw her to speak to her. so u should definately have the right to tell that teacher that they were wrong in doing that. also let the teacher know that your child went all weekend without a coat because of his or her actions. i'm sure that the school will apoligize to u & if u get no where then call up the superintendant, the schools boss & see what happens, actually u should call the superintendant & the principal & the teacher. good luck & let me know how u make out if u like. bb, nobrethequeen

Its too easy to go mad initially. Find out the reason why the pratt kept the coat, then let them have all your fury ..... but only if it is reasonable. On the basis of life, no teacher should be allowed to take a childs coat, especially in this weather. If it is a pathetic reason, then take the matter as far as it is possible to take it. BUT DO CHECK OUT ALL FACTS FIRST.

I thnk you should "go mad" as you put it. I am also curiouse to know why they took your sons coat because that is absolutely outragouse that they would do that. I feel for you and it is hard sometimes doing 200000 things at once so fight back and get that coat back and be sure to give it to them good girl cuz you so have the right and the reason to do so! i would be furiouse too!!! youre so right that it is child abuse to have him walk home in that weather with no coat! My mom used to do this all the time when my school would screw up and it worked...they never did it again to me or anyone else for that matter so stick it to'em good! GET MAD!!!

You are owed an explanation it better be a good one. Your son could have lied and the coat was forgotten or something else happened to it but if it happened as he says I would have that teacher on the hot seat for child abuse.

The weather is cold
they needs their coats
So the teacher says you will have to
wait until Monday. That is the trouble with students
they leave their coats at school.
I was going to say make sure your kids have a coat
at home and demand they wear it home.
They can wear the one that was not so pricey and leave it at school, but insist they wear their good coats home.

Losing your temper or being aggressive will only make things worse and will not solve anything. I would do things correctly and phone the school tomorrow, ask calmly what the reason was for this behaviour and make an appointment to see the headmaster if no reasonable explanation is given.

You need to appoach the school staff calmly, as yet you only know one side of the story.
You should go with one intention, to find out the schools version of what happened. I wouldn't be surprised if they knew nothing about it, and your child somehow forgot it, or had some other reason for not bringing it home.

Try to get all of the facts before you go off on the teacher; kids are rarely forthcoming with all the details that go with a story. But that does seem a bit extreme to me given how cold it is.

Based on the fact that the true facts may be still cloudy to u or unknown and your an adult try to calm down but based on the fact I'm a mom I would be crazy mad you have to approach it how you feel at the moment just try to be professional remember you represent your child and smarts always win over brawn.
