I just read a posting on a different question where some girl stated, "people shouldn't fix their pure bred dogs, they are meant for breeding, other wise I wouldn't have mine".. How low is that!.. people who think that way should NEVER even own a dog! my pure bred pom is fixed, and I wouldn't have her any other way. If you don't care about your dog, or their health then maybe you should just stick to stuffed animals, and dolls. What is wrong with some of you people? I don't get it. What makes you think just because you have a pure bred dog means the only reason you have it is for breeding?

AMEN SISTER!
i know exactly what you mean.
as well as mutts, there are LOADS of purebreds locked in shelters too.
some people are really ignorrant about breeding and neuter/spaying.
i have a purebred kc reg. german shepherd and will be neutering as soon as he is old enough.

That's as extreme as saying ALL dogs should be spayed/neutered which is ridiculous!
Dogs that shouldn't be spayed or neutered are those shown with a view to later responsible breeding and those used for working. However most of those dogs are in the hands of people who know what they are doing and make sure that 'accidents' don't happen. Some in any litter won't make the grade in their respective breeds though and when sold as pets should be 'fixed'!
Pure bred isn't an automatic qualification for breeding and the shelters and rescue societies are inundated with examples of WHY!! Like my own dog > A pure bred GSD owned by a puppymill breeder just in it to make money! She shouldn't have been bred at all as although a beautiful dog she is far too light in colouring and her hip score is too high, she's passed the fault on to her off spring, who, if in the hands of a person like your example, will no doubt pass the fault down through the line!

I have a pure bred Bulldog and a Komondor, both are neutered, both are from rescues (have papers and all), and people ask me all the time why in the world I would do that, instead of breeding them. I would not have them any other way. Just because a dog is purebred, does not mean it's quality for reproduction. I have seen purebred dogs that look horrible, just b/c it's purebred and technically has papers does not mean it's anywhere close to breed standards. Breeding should be done to better a breed, not just to make money on cute puppies.

personally I don't like either end of this spectrum people who have the above idea or people who think everyone should spay and neuter their pets and there are no responsible breeders. They are both wrong there are responsible breeders and there are good reasons that people don't "fix" their animals some people want to show their dogs or work them. Not everyone who doesn't spay or neuter their dogs means to breed them and maybe some people only plan to do it if their dog becomes a champion in some arena who knows
I plan to somehow work my next dog give them something to do I am not sure I should have that dog done but I will do the research and find out what is best for the dog and the sport or whatever I do with him or her. That person is wrong but so are a lot of people with extreme views

I agree, my 100% pure bred Great Pyrenees that we rescued was an owner turn in that wanted to breed them but thought ours was too dumb. Turns out she was the dumb one. She filled out a profile on our sweet Hamilton (or Hammy as he is known to his friends), she had named him Odie by the way, we had to change his name as he didn't know it and flinched when you talked to him. Anyway, stating he was stupid...he is one of the best dogs we have ever had, he is now fixed because we are not breeders but we do get compliments on how beautiful he is all the time. When we got him he was 50 pounds underweight. He now weighs a proper weight and will be just fine. People make me angry!

That is so bizarre to me! Pure bred dogs are for breeding, but only by a dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced breeder--not your average everyday pet owner!

Most people think that just because a dog has uterus its a puppy making money factory. Pretty sad isn't it.

Some dogs just don't need to be bred. It takes a very dedicated person to breed dogs, and the people you are talking about are far from that.

Ok, now that's just sad. If I choose to breed, that's my choice, yes, I agree with that. But that should never be a reason to have a pet. Hence the different terms, pet, and breeding stock.

i have a few pure breds but i would never breed them because i know about the pet overpopulation and i don't want to add to it.

I have pure bred dogs, I am not a breeder, but, I do not spay or neuter either. I have never had a pregnancy nor any "accidental" breedings. I need my dogs hormones intact as I am interested in their working drives!!
