I know this question has been almost beaten to death, but I was wondering what I would need to build a dog house similar to the one here:

http://www.pets-haven.com/dog_and_cat_house.htm

I am not experienced enough to know what I need, heck, I'm not even going to build the dog house myself. So I was hoping one of you would have an idea of what I need for this house or a similar one with the same floor plan idea.

Thanks

As funny as this sounds, it will be build by prisoners for $5.

There are many floor plans if you search in the web for them. Or just show some pictures to a good person that know something about construction. They could make that easily.

To get one similar to that you can go to Lowe's and get one of their outside play houses. (must assemble yourself.) Replace the plastic parts with metal or wooden ones and then slap a paint job on it.

Here's the Lowe's link for the "Katrina Cottages". (People I'm not advertising so please don't start with the petty reporting again.) http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productList&Ne=7000&category=Katrina+Cottage+Plans&N=0+5002245
They sell the plan book for really cheap if you want to make an attempt at piecing it together on your own.

add: Sorry I forgot, if you go to ask.com and type in 'build your own dog house' or something similar you can find some very good ideas and lists of materials. The cost is going to vary depending on your location, materials used (IE Oak compared to Pine), labor charges if you aren't doing the work yourself. The link above isn't cheap ( I hate lowe's but I rip off their building ideas all the time) I'm sure you can find cheaper out there.

add: Hey, I support inmate workers. They need to learn the skills or their sol upon release. In that case, make a list of feature you'd like it to have, decide on materials and any special options. For example, my dream dog house would be 8x6, with attached dog run and a dog door leading to the house. It would have a front porch and windows, be two story (sectioned off, the top for the cats) cooling/heating unit. It would be made out of finished pine with wooden shutters and wooden molding. The dog/cat doors would be magnetic and well you get the idea. As soon as you have a basic idea of what you want either borrow a computer with architectural software or have a contractor/engineer/architect draw them out for you. Speak with a knowledgeable person about materials that meet your needs.

Without the floor plans, I can not say what you will need. It will probably cost between $3,000 to $ 4,000. the person you get to build it will know what is needed.
