I own a 2000 dodge stratus with a 2.5L engine. A friend installed the ac compressor without charging it and i would like to do it on my own if i could but do not want to risk damaging my car.

you need to have a way to pump it down or vacuum the system out, this is done to remove all the air from it then you need a good set of gages to help you fill the system so you don't over-fill it,and get the pressure right on it,other wise you could damage the new compressor, there's really more to doing this than it sounds like ,id suggest that if you don't own the specialty tools to do this with ,have someone do it,it would be a lot better than ruining a new compressor, good luck and merry x-mas.

If you have to ask a question like this, you don't need to attempt it! Do like Dodge Man says and save you're self a lot of trouble. It has to be evacuated and charged with the right refrigerant. NOT what you bought at the store if it has stuff in it to stop leaks!

take it to a shop or you will ruin it and void any warranty on the compressor.

R-134A systems require a vacum and an oil service prior to adding a specific amount of R-134A refrigerant(to the exact ounce!)

You surely lack the equip necessary to do such work, so don't just hook up a can and think you are saving money, you won't!
