If you have been in a relationship for 4 yrs. & were both loving & affectionate with each other & then all of a sudden the man says he wants out of the relationship because you are always fighting about his alcohol addiction can things ever be worked out? If he decides that he still loves you but, is no longer in-love with you can those feelings be turned around? Do men sometimes use those words just to get at you? My ex told me the same thing a few months ago when we split for a few days & then came back to me & said he didn't really mean it-he was just angry & I forgave him. This time though he has been gone for 2 mths. but, still uses things (picking up belongings, financial business, etc.) to stay in contact with me instead of just making a clean break.Do we have a future or am I just wasting my time. I still love him very much.

He needs help with the alcohol addiction first. That is the first priority. But if he doesn't want help with the alcohol addiction then you need to make the clean break. You will just end up getting hurt even worse then you are now. Any addiction equals a bad relationship. However if he is getting help with the addiction just be there for him and be his friend for right now. Sometimes feelings do come back and sometimes they don't.

If he is an alcoholic count your blessings and move on. That only gets worse before it gets better and anyone in it's path suffers the blow. I am a recovering addict with 4.5 years clean.... I do speak from experience here. He is ill and has no clue what or who he wants. He is destroying himself a day at a time, you don't need to stand there and watch it. If he can't control his drinking, what makes you think you can? Let him go babe, just move on with your life. Give him whatever crap you have of his and YOU make the clean break. He will never get well with someone breaking his fall. Never. That could actually kill him.
