Any ethernet will do, Its best to have Cat 5, 5e or 6, as they are the newest and fastest ones (6 being the best of course). I recommend going to ebay and buying from there, you can get a 50' cable for like 5-10 bucks shipping included, and the quality is good.

Any Ethernet cable will work on your ps3. Anything that just says "made for ps3" is bs.

I'm pretty sure you can use any cable for online play, it doesn't matter. I use a Belkin 30m cable I bought off of amazon for xbox live on my 360, works fine.
