the ps3 controller is "sixaxis"-that is to say it is a multiple direction controller whereas the ps2 version is somewhat limited in this department. the ps3 controller is also bluetooth enabled allowing for true freedom of movement for the user it also has motion sensing capabilities. the downside is that the ps3 controller has no rumble ability (which makes no difference to me as i find it annoying). but the dualshock 3 is due for launch in the spring which is rumble enabled. the ps3 controller also requires charging from time to time where the ps2 doesn't. you can also switch the ps3 on and off from the controller (using the "ps" button) where you cannot with the ps2 version. apart from these differences the controllers are essentially the same.

1). PS3 controller (SIXAXIS) is a bluetooth wireless controller with motion sensor (you move the controller - game responds - not all of the game support it). It has no vibro, but in the beginning of 2008 Dualshock 3 comes out in PAL and NTSC U/C regions - it has same functions as SIXAXIS + vibro. Dualshock3 is already on sale in Japan. Uses USB connection. Has PS button for the remote control on the console itself (On/Off, etc.)
2). PS2 controller (Dualshock 2) - has vibro, but it's wired and it doesn't have motion sensor. Uses exclusive PS2 connection. Has an ANALOG button for analog sticks.
