Hello there:

I just moved to a an apartment and it is completely white, so I'd like to some accent colors. I was thinking about a lime green (maybe a little bit darker) and an orange to the wall of the dining room. My worries are that my sofas are a very light green (almost turning to blue) and my dining furniture is a comtemporary style black and silver. Do you think the colors that i have in mind will match with my furniture????? Pls help me....The christmas party is gonna be here, in my apartment!!!!

How about getting a large collection of frames in all different sizes, and using a bright colored fabric pulled taught and stapled to the frame board/cardboard inserts. Use the same color, and get creative with the variation in frames and shapes, textures, some large, some medium, some small, and cluster them covering one wall. That'll bring a really unique interest -- color, texture, dimension. And it's easy to take down and even change the fabric color! Or, reuse with pictures or pressed objects or pins, etc. (showing off a collection of something, but I'd even skip that in this case to keep it a modern idea).

You could also do this with a cluster of all kinds of mirrors in bold colored frames;
a cluster of those lightweight ceiling medallions and paint them (or spraypaint them) silver or some pop of color like cobalt blue or red. I've seen this in a magazine as a decorating idea, it's very interesting. You can find these in a local hardware store, like Home Depot.

Or hang a rug on the wall, a quilt, or a really large framed fabric or sheet of colored (even tone on tone) wallpaper framed with painted wall molding.

There are lots of ways to bring lots of color and interest to your blank white walls without having to paint them.

Another idea is let's say you have a collection of colored bags, or hats or trays -- or even if you went out and bought a bunch of lightweight solid colored plates (I hope you get the idea) and then hang them in a measured graphical way -- hanging the hooks evenly let's say 4 across and 3 down, with a total of 12 on the wall -- that would make it more of a modern presentation of a collection of something while adding color. It could be something very simple, but when hung in this way, a modern statement. Look through catalogs or online for more inspiration.

I'd stay away from painting apartment walls. You may not like those colors and have to keep repainting them, and then they'd be hard to get back to white when it's time to leave.

Be sure to check with your landlord. Most apartments are painted white so that it matches everyone. Not too exciting but functional for your landlord. Your painting can be construed as damage to your apartment and you can be held responsible and a professional will be hired to repaint and they are expensive. But if your landlord doesn't care, go for it. Make your apartment you. If he does care, consider buying material and carefully staple it to the walls in the color you want. It will also give you texture and can easily be removed when you're tired of it or move.

It actually sounds really cool. Why not go to one of the websites like SherwinWilliams.com and use the color visualizer? It will let you even pick the furniture color. I use it all the time for choosing colors for my investment properties... even if I don't buy their paint all of the time!
