We have a septic tank, so certainly not down the sink. I put it into used milk cartons and dump them in the regular garbage pick-up!

Okay, my great grandmother swore by burying it in the yard. However, I don't really know how environmentally friendly that is. So, I really just wait for it to cool then I put it in a plastic grocery bag and then put another bag around the first one and throw it out with the garbage. Just make sure the bags are solid and don't spill all over the place.
So, that's my method and my grandmother's old adage, I'm really curious how other people do it, though.

If you are talking about cooking GREASE then let it cool in a container, then throw the grease out and of course wash the container well. If you really mean OIL then toss it in the sink... if you don't think that's the brightest idea then I don't know what to tell you!

It won't harm the environment, but it may block your pipes so don't pour it down the sink. Pour it straight onto the garden.

i double bag it in compostable corn starch bags and send it to be coposted.
( and heather: since it is compostable your great grandmother was wise.)
