He always sneaks to the litter box and gets it. We have tried a security gate but he jumps it. And when I take him for walks outside, if he finds it he tries to eat it. I have to watch him constantly, it's a real drag. I feed him Royal Canon food, one of the best, chicken, turkey and rice and I give him treats too. But he still wants to eat poop. Why?

Many dogs do that because cat poop is high in protein (really). I use to put my litter box in another box that had a small opening. This will only work if the dog is larger then the cat.I don't know what to do if they are about the same size.

Let the cat poop stay in the box but shake white pepper on it. The dog usually only has to try to eat ONE of them and that cures the problem. Black pepper isn't strong enough, and red pepper can be smelled to easily. Use white.

Don't use meat tenderiser in the cat's food, it's 80% salt and that's hard for a cat to process, it can cause kidney problems.

Feed your cat deter and the dog wont like it any more,it works trust me,and after awhile he will be broken from the habit,i know it's discucting, but try that,it wont be bad for the cat and, just mix it in with the food. You can get it at the pet shop.Consult your vett first,i'd hate it if something went wrong ,but i'v done it,i asked the vett and she said yes it's harmless,it just makes their poo sickining tasting, ewwwwww i think it probably is,even without deter, lol good luck, bye.

i don't understand why dogs do that but to stop our dogs from getting into the litter box we put all the cat stuff in the bathroom and put a cat door in so the cats can get into that room but the dogs can't

my dog does the same, after 3 years still we have not broken her. inside we've put all of the boxes out of reach, but if she finds it on a walk its no holds barred. though sometimes if i know where it it i can act preemtivly. i tell her NO in my deep voice. i say that kitty poop is like chocolate to humans .... so i tell Clover NO CHOCOLATE !!!! ~ good luck!!

put some meat tenderizer in your cats food.it doesn't change the way it tastes but it makes the poop taste bad to the dog.if he doesn't like it he will stop eating it.trust me we used this technique on our dog and it worked we were also recommended this by a certifyed veternarian.
