I am a full time student, I'm not a big spender, therefore, most of my money is just sitting in my checking account. I currently use a cell phone that my parents got for me. Now, what I want to know is, can I buy a new cell phone and open my own line of service under my name? Won't they have to do a credit check? I do not have any credit. How is this going to work?

You can open the line of service under your own name. They are probably going to do a credit check, but let them know that you have none. You'll probably just have to pay a large deposit as security.

It depends on the company you might have to pay a deposit of $250.00 or less. When I was 18 and had no credit I didn't have to pay a deposit b/c they said no credit is good credit, but things have changed in the last couple of years and I know ppl who have paid a deposit.

A large deposit is almost guranteed. If your parents co-sign it might not be as bad.

nope...unless you have a job or other verifiable income, they really check credit history in this situation
