It depends on what it is and why they are doing the background check. They will find out anything they need to know. I have to have background checks because of my job. But, they don't ever ask me anything.
You should be fine. But, I think I would tell them. If it were something minor that happened in high school, it should not effect you getting the job. But, if you don't tell them and get the job and they find out in the future..it may not look good that you withheld the info. Someone who you went to high school with may tell.
Good Luck!!

Was this something that maybe wasn't reported to the police, but became part of your permanent record? Maybe you could ask your school district if you could look at your file and see what the BI would see (don't know if they would let you, but it couldn't hurt to ask).
If the BI calls you out on something, answer as honestly as you can. Say you forgot about it since it happened so long ago and ask for a moment to remember all the circumstances of the event. I'm sure as long as it wasn't for something drug related or violent you will be just fine.
If you don't get hired, come to CA and work for the Dept. of Corrections...we'll hire anybody!!:) I know when I did my BI, there were things I forgot about...like a ticket several years before for speeding and I left out one previous address. It was no big deal. They know people forget little things. I only had to fax in statements ammending what I previously had sworn to.

They may ask you about it but it won't look good, so be honest from the start. If there is something negative in your background, bring it out into the open when you are asked questions. If you are given a lie detector test, lies will be detected right away. Not all people will be booted if there is something minor in their past. If you have ever been convicted of a felony, don't bother to apply for job in law enforcement.

I think you mean "accidentally, on purpose forget something." The police have powers you cannot even imagine. It doesn't matter which country you are living in. The police routinely break the law in a lot of ways besides parking on the sidewalk. You should be the one to tell the police anything. Frame your response carefully. You may need to speak to a lawyer. If the police find out through other people/sources, the information will be highly distorted. People believe whoever gets to them first. That's why you should give them the information and put the spin on it that shows you in the best light.

Well if it is something that you are 100% sure of that will appear in a background check and you did not mention it, that would be considered something you are trying to cover up. I don't know what circumstances you are in as to why you are getting a background check, but if it for a job it may already be too late. Consider informing them that you left something out and don't want them to assume you are hiding it.

Tell them what you forgot! It shouldn't show up in the background check so you have time. You want to be a police officer. One way to prove it is by doing the right thing!
Best of Luck!

contact the background Investigator and explain to him the incident and that you forgot to tell him about it. Then take what ever comes. Most agencies are willing to at least talk to you about the incident before they make a decision

when i applied for the police department i listed everything i could remember but i also put in parenthesis that i answered everything to the best of my knowledge as i remembered it. i forgot to list a job and it came back on me but because i put down that i answered to the best of my ability i was OK. if it is too late to do that contact them and let them know as soon as possible that you remember something that you did not put on your paperwork. i do know that you could face jail time with the state police if they do a background check and found out you did not list something rather it is intentionally or not.

They are not going to be happy about it. But it really depends upon the severity of it. If you "forgot" that you were arrested / charged or found guilty of something (like a DWI, DUI, Assault, etc) then you can pretty much count on the it being a HUGE mark against you.
Now.. if it's something simple like a credit card account that wasn't paid... then you'll be OK.
Good luck!

so are you applying to be a licensed peace officer, security guard or what? Just go back and tell the truth, it's much easier than remembering a lie!
