If you are ordering online they will let you know when they will arrive. Ususally they give a week. If not you will have to pick them up from the station.

The 17th is the last day for guaranteed delivery by Christmas, i.e. by the 24th, of 2nd class post. For 1st class it is the 20th. Whilst your tickets would probably arrive, you cannot be sure at this time of year and I would arrange to collect them from the station at which you are starting your journey. Unless, of course, you are prepared to pay to have them sent to you by special delivery (guaranteed to arrive the following day)

Well with the Christmas post it may be better if you order the tickets and collect them from the station, because you are more likly to get them on time.

I hope my answer helps.
