Oh, the Canadian Atheist. It is you again. How do you stand out as the one and only?

I ask this question because i was just reading "The Message" a modern translation of the Bible. Here in 2 John I read, "Anyone who gets so progressive in his thinking that he walk out on the teachings of Christ, walk out on God."

In the Old Testament that there a passage that states that in the end time knowledge will greatly in crease and that it will be very hard to believe in God and that if God didn`t shorten those days that even the elect would not believe. Also in Mathew 24:22 Jesus also talked of the tribulation and the elect.

To answer this question authentically you have to comprehend what thinking is.
That means, doesn't it, that you have to understand yourself. You have to comprehend and understand the thought process.
You have to see directly [not theoretically] what thinking is, you have to see and comprehend the limits of thinking, that is, how thought is limited.
You have to see how thinking is useful in a certain direction, namely technologically, but in the other direction, namely psychologically, it cannot grasp what is beyond itself.
Otherwise you may imagine something is true that may not be true or is not true.
A common problem.
That kind of learning cannot come out of a book, you have to do it yourself. By looking at yourself you will see what is happening. Watch yourself now as you read, follow along, comprehend what you are reading and also see your inward responses to it. See what is taking place. Look as holistically as you can. See the whole enchilada.
Thinking is the response of memory. If you had no memory you could not think.
Thinking is actually recalling what you already know, what your brain has accumulated in your memory. It is the residue of your experiences which has become your knowledge.
Therefore thinking is limited. Limited to the known.
And you are asking a question about the unknown.
Can thought which is limited, which is caught in the known, comprehend the unknown?

I don't really know, to be honest. Some are, but I am not really certain if that is just a product of skeptical mindset, rather than atheism itself. But, I know that believing there is no god does not automatically mean that you are progressive thinker: some who have that belief are just trying to rebel against what they see as the popular mindset, and their only motives are to be contrarian. These people generally regurgitate what other atheists have come up in order to support the decision, and are usually more volatile than they need to be.
So, yeah...depends on the person.

I believe we are progressive...we have progressed from blind faith to science and reason. I am sad to see that my grown children, who I took to church each week when they were tiny are still clinging to the idea of God. I have told them that I did it with the best of intentions but through education, enquiry and thinking for myself, I realise that the Universe and evolution did not need a hand of a god. I have progressed from this shallow non-questioning religious faith but my sons have not yet. Hopefully, when they have time, they will see reason as the way forward.

I don't know that "progressive" is the right word. It's not like there were no Atheists before the year 2000. Or before the creation of Yahoo! Answers. You do realize that much don't you?

I'm not sure progressive thinking is my reason for not believing in god. I see it as a myth that has many faces.

I'm a backward thinker who wants to get back to the source - if we can't start over, at least it will be quieter.

You proceed from a false assumption.
We don't believe that there is no god, we know it for an undeniable fact.
