i sincerly advice you to scrap the idea to go for an electric bike as of today.. the reason is these bike come with LEAD acid batteries. as you know lead is highly toxic for humans. when ever you discard a battery it add to the environmental pollution... pl wait for some more years and look out for HYBRID bikes , ie., they come with a FUEL cell. fuel cells works with Hydrogen and the only by product of a fuel cell is water...fuel cells are absolutely pollution free.... please think about it...

Don't know about India - Do they sell Giant Lite bikes there? I think they are very popular in Japan. I own one (in USA) and it is very reilable, and it is also considered reliable in Japan. By the way, the Giant Lite does not use Lead-Acid batteries, it uses Lithium-Ion (so that's why it is so expensive). Lithium-Ion is what will power the next generation of electric automobiles, like the Chevy Volt which is now under development.
