The solution is not to do it. The problem is that your reaction time is severely slower than that of a sober individual. If a child was to run out in front of a vehicle being driven by an intoxicated individual the response time is influenced by the alcohol. That child may get run over. Not to mention that some people have a tendency to pass out behind the wheel. If an individual was asleep driving 45 mph not able to stop the vehicle or turn the vehicle much harm could come to anyone on the road or their property. Do you think that a drunk driver is going to stop if they run into a parked car to let the owner know they hit it? Do you think a drunk driver would stop and wait for the authorities to show up if they hit anything? The average would not. If you truly want to know more visit the MADD website, and read up on the stories there. Ask anyone you know if a drunk driver has affected there lives somehow.

Well you dont do it for one unless you want to kill some innocent person or yourself. My dad is an alchoholic and about 6 months ago he was working for a tow truck company. He brought the truck home one night on his day off to fix the mirror on it and got drunk blacked out and thought he was on a call and drove down main street and plowed in to the back of a city bus. Thank God he didnt kill anyone, if he hadnt hit the bus he would have probably killed someone hitting a smaller car. Now he is facing jail time, has no job and is depressed all the time and that makes him drink more. But thankfully he is going into treatment on Monday hopefully it works this time. So the solution would to be to lock your keys away or give them to someone when drinking that you know will not give them back. Also if going out to the bar have a designated driver, I am ussually the designated driver when I go out because I dont like to drink so good luck and I hope this helps.

I would look on the national highway safety administration's web page for auto accident statistics. A very high percentage of traffic "accidents" and deaths are caused by drunk drivers.
The solution seems to be tough enforcement and harsh penalties, because the percentage has been decreasing since they started doing this. Drunk driving use to be much more common, but most people have wised up because of these measures. Sure people still do dumb things, but the big problem are the repeat offenders, nothing seems to work with them.
