It means you follow the teachings of the Christ. The understanding of what these teachings are vary from person to person, & as in all other faiths, is usually a process, not an event. The problem comes when one group decides they are the ultimate authority of correct understanding. I don't think this is part of the Christ teachings.
Blessings.

A Christian is someone who professes "belief" in Jesus Christ. Period.
This will evidently have different connations for different individuals which is a pretty simple concept to understand and accept, in my mind. We are all variations of the same thing.
Seemingly, however, many of us can not grasp that variation exists and will continue to exist among *different* people. This is evident in our unrelenting efforts to persecute views, people, harmless behaviours, and thoughts about something that IS mere "belief" just because it does not coincide with our own opinions.
It baffles my mind how and why humans demonstratively condone and justify being creul and judgemental using religious beliefs as a valid crutch, while other such beliefs are not persecuted or used in the same way. If we are really this ignorant, perhaps we should start wars and justify them using opinions about other issues; beliefs in UFO's, schizophrenic delusions, or variations to do with the concept of love. That, at least, might offer some consistency and help veil our ignorance a little better.
It's too bad that some people choose to define being a Christian as hubris in an attempt to claim some ultimate wisdom.

Following the written word of God/Jesus.
The Hebrew or Jewish people maintain their belief and practice in the Torah (Old Testament).
While the Christians follow the belief and practice outlined in the New Testament.
Many other religions follow a similar belief that must be respected, a good representation of any religion is that they believe in a God of mercy and love.
I remember a Catholic friend in college that shared a dorm room with a Muslim, both would always argue/debate their religious beliefs.
One day as both were standing holding their bibles and debating the Catholic lost footing and his bible fell from his hands.
The Muslim seeing this quickly dropped to his knee to catch his bible.
Yes, a great respect is depicted from both religions.

Good Morning Greg,
There are a combination of things that make up a person who claims to be a Christian.
First the person has become conversant with the word of God -- ie the Bible. (1)
Second the person recognizes God by his name, which is iterated over 6000 times in the Bible. (2) Further he accepts that personage as the Creator of all that exists in our physical realm. (3)&(7)
Third the person recognizes Jesus as God's son. Not his equal or part of a trinity or God incarnate. There is no support for any such beliefs in the Bible. (4)
Fourth the person will publicly display his commitment to his belief by full immersion baptism just as was done to Jesus by John the Baptist. (5)
Fifth the person upon acceptance of the above vows to God that he will abide and follow His word. Further, he will preach according to the instructions of His Son Jesus of the coming new kingdom which is good news to all who will hear and accept that teaching and in turn make their own commitment.(6)
Sixth the person will be known by the Love they show for the people with whom the associate and for the love they show to those they meet in daily life sharing the Word of God with them. (7)
Seventh the person according to the Bible will not associate with people of a contrary nature to their beliefs. (8)
Eight the person looks forward to a time when there will be peace on earth, no pain, no illness, no politics, eternal life in a paradise earth. (9)
There are scriptual verses below to back up each of these items.
There is more but the only people I know that do all of these things and do them on a daily basis and truely belief these things are Jehovah's Witnesses. {(10) Witnesses' beliefs}
Most notable too in this time where the direction of the political system in the United States is being again determined, is that Witnesses do not particapate in any political actions as they "are not of this world" but belong to God not to man.
Hope this is adequate. If you have any more questions ask a Witness they will be happy to help answer them.

Followers of Jesus. But there is more to it than that, what with the proliferation of denominations, different interpretations, etc. Basically a belief in the Triune God, recognizing God the Father, and being led by the Holy Spirit and asking anything to Father in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Baptism, Christening, Marriage, and all else are secondary to this. God Bless You.

A Christian is known by their attitude and actions, not by their platitudes and verbosity!!
Those who do stand on the street corners and preach to others or do their alms there are not Christians!! They just want the world to believe they are.
Attitudes and actions speak much louder than verbalizations and verbosity!!! A Christian is always quietly helpful and cheerful. Being seen in a public gathering place such as churches is not necessary.

Salam
To follow the prophets from Adam to Muhammed SAW and read all books and have peace in their hearts and peace on earth. To stop flip flopping and to stop taking the deity for nothing more than his Absolute existance in a place of no time. Its impossible for God to be human being AstugfarAllah Azeem! Surely he has no son and no son came from him, and it wasn't Jesus that died on that cross he told you never to bare, it was Judas R.a.
The case has been made and stated billions of times and the same result, no body, he has risen so they need to wake up and stop listening to each other and start to listen to the one and only Lord. That goes tripple for muslims and jews!

I don't think there are Christians any more. I think Jesus' true teachings have been completely lost and rewritten by those in power to make slaves of the masses. We've awoken from the slave dream of structured Christianity. Those who still call themselves Christian just want to be told what to do... They're cattle. But the Age we've entered now dictates that man must rule. (Even Vatican II recognized this, and tried to word it in a way that would keep their power structure viable)

Believing in Jesus as your Savior. there are many different denominations but all believe in Jesus regardless of their other differences. I don`t think that you even have to belong to a church to be saved or be a Christian as I said believing in Jesus and following him that`s what makes you Christian.
