Model numbers would have helped. :)
Do you have a cable/satellite box?
1. Inspect the back of your cab/sat box. It will have optical out or coaxial out and it will have audio out (red and white pins)
2. Inspect the back of your surround system unit. It will have TV or Auxillary in. Check to see what connections are available for each of those inputs.
3. Decide what to use. Optical and coaxial are better than the red/white connectors. If one of them is available, use it. If not, use the red/white connectors. They work okay.
4. Find the input selector on the front of your surround system and select the input you just plugged the cable into.
Are you running cable directly to your TV with no box?
1. Inspect the back of your television. It will likely have optical out or coaxial out and it will possibly have audio out (red and white pins)
5.You may have to go to your TV menu and choose between "fixed" and "variable" audio out. (this usually hides in the sound menu somewhere) Choose fixed if you want the surround system to control the volume, choose variable if you want both the TV and the sound system to control the volume.

My surround sound system is connected to my TV via a scart lead. If I've got a normal television programme on all i need to do is press the "aux/di" button on my DVD remote and the surround sound plays whatever I'm watching on the TV. Great if there's a film on sky or something...

Hi,
The TV should have several outputs, from RCA connectors right up to Digital optical cable.
You sound system will have several inputs including RCA and maybe others.
Connect the output of the TV to a suitable input on the LG system.
Check the TV's manual, you sometimes need to turn off the internal tv sound to get an output from the TV outlet sockets.
The on the LG, select the input that you have plugged the TV into.

The digital audio out is what you need to use. It's a coaxial audio connector. When using the red and white audio out, you are only sending stereo sound to your receiver, so that is all it will play. If you have a coaxial audio in on the receiver buy a cable to hook that up, and it should work. If the receiver only has an optical port, check your verizon box, that may have optical.
