How do Army Reservists get paid?

Question

Not for the weekend stuff and not the guys who are out on the battle field. But if your activated to work on the base regular like for long periods

I don't mean how does the pay go to their Bank account. I mean how often do they get money.

If some one is on reserve but not given orders do they get paid ( I am asking this because thats what one roomie is telling me that when he is not on orders he gets 0 cash and I am confused because of what a good friend told me and I hope I am not being lied to by my roomie.)

They have cut off dates on when you get paid. When they drill, it should be every third weekend of the month, If it is before the cut off date then they will be paid on the first of the month, if it is passed the cut off date then they will not see the money till the 15th of the next month. Not sure exactly what the cut off dates are, they change all the time.

Also don't listen to Rick, because he has no idea what he is talking about. Active duty gets payed twice a month. Once on the 15th of the month and once on the 1st. If either of those dates fall on the weekend or a holiday then they get paid the first business day before the weekend or holiday.

Full time admin and trainers get paid as Civil Service during the week. National Guard does the same thing for full timers but on the state payroll.

Drill pay is once a month. 2 days active pay for each day of Drill, a Drill is 4 hours. 4 days pay for the weekend. If you come in for extra duty it's the same. When Staff came in for meetings they would get pay for one Drill (4 hours) or 2 drills if they were supervising make up drill for others on a weekend.

If active you are part of the Regular Army/Navy/Air Force and would get active pay either once of twice month.

Even though I have been out since before many of you were born I am fairly confident they have not resorted to slave labor.

No you only get your pay for that drill weekend and then you get the GI Bill if you're in school but as a Reservist it's not very much, about $300 a month. You should try to get a signing bonus if you can, that will help out.

I would assume he still gets paid every month or else why would he be in the Army Reserves waiting to possibly be called up? It sounds like your roommate is lying to you/holding off on paying rent.

Then, you are paid the same as any other active duty soldier of the same rank and length of service.
