Romans 7:7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet."
1 Timothy 1:8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

No one can follow all 10 commandments PERFECTLY.
Not even the Pope can adhere to all 10 rules. The Bible teaches, if we break one of these commandments, we are GUILTY of breaking them all. The way to heaven is not by trying to KEEP the 10 commandments.
God understood that it is very difficult for us to KEEP all 10 commandments as HE requires. Thus, God made it easier for us. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and you will be saved from a life without God when you leave this world. Got it???

Yes. Actually, God gave Moses the law to tell the people exactly what was expected of his people. Because God is perfect his law is likewise perfect and have a triple effect. You listed the first two and the third, which is more important, to live in obedience to God.
When you think about the commandments you have to wonder why people are opposed to them. We would live in a perfect world if all obeyed them.

I see it as the main core of all morality, which was then built upon with other commandments. At the time of Jesus there were a lot more than ten. Jesus was forced to choose the two most important and came up with this answer "Love the Lord your God with all your strength, mind and heart, and love your neighbors and yourself."

The ten commandments are the core of the old covenant to which only Israel was required to keep and observe. You were never a party to that covenant, and that covenant ended.
It was a covenant of death and condemnation. So if you decide to live by that covenant law, you will bring yourself under the condemnation of the law.

The Ten Commandments can be summed up in two.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
They teach to keep peace with each other and to submit to God.

They were created for the purpose of social control. They are valuable because they are really a guide for the acceptable behavior of all of the global population. They are the golden rule. Do no harm.

The Law was created to show people how hopelessly sinful they were and that they could not create their own self-righteousness...
When Christ came he put an end to the Law.... Our righteousness completely hangs on Christ if we are a believer... If we are an unbeliever there is no righteousness at all....not even earned righteousness.

I think even atheists accept most of the commandments, its pretty much common sense not to kill people for no reason, or cheat on your spouse.
