Need to type 5-10, 11-20 etc. in excel. everytime i do, it autocorrects it to a date. How can i turn this of? I have tried formatting the cell, but no luck.

Another option is to use an apostrophe as the first character. (IE, type '5-10). This will tell Excel to handle the contents of the cell as text. The ' will not be displayed in the cell.

Formatting the cell should have taken care of it. If you still have problems you might try going into your default windows settings for your computer which you can find in the Control Panel. You should find it under the Regional and Language Options. Click on the Regional Options tab then click on the Customize button. Then select the Date tab. That should show your default short date format and default long date format for Windows. Your short date format may need changed if it is not in the format you would like it in.

When you format the cell, just choose text, not number.
