Compresses air coming into the engine.

It is essentially a fan that sucks in the air and rams it into the engine (i.e. compresses the air). This not only gives the engine more oxygen, but as the cyinder head compresses the air in the cylinder, that air is already somewhat compressed. This gives the cylinder firing that much more power. It is driven off of exhaust gasses, so you have to be going fast enough for it to work (i.e. it will not typically kick in at 25MPH).

Look up turbo chargers on the web>

it forces air back through the engine from the exhaust to increase air flow,to make more horse power,it also makes the temperature of the engine rise a lot when using it,its kind of hard on an engine when they have a turbo charger on them, that's all it does though is increase horse power, nothing else, good luck.

there's 2 ways of getting more continuous (not like nox) power from your engine; turbocharging and supercharging.

tubos first. a turbo uses 2 fans one connected to the exhaust and one to the air intake. the fans are on the same spindle. when exhaust gases exit the valve, they (the gases) "blow" the fan round, turning the second fan pushing more air into the intake (which has a higher pressure, more pressure means more air which means more oxygen which therefore means more power.

superchargers are very similar to turbos except they are not powered by the exhaust gases but by a belt to the drive shaft.

The function of turbocharger is to force-feed air into a engine (as opposed to a naturally aspirated engine which uses only the downward stroke of a piston in order to draw air into the cylinder). The objective of turbocharging is to improve the volumetric efficiency of a engine, which means increasing the output of the engine (with increased fuel).
A turbocharger consists of a turbine and a compressor linked by a shared axle. The turbine inlet receives exhaust gases from the engine exhaust manifold causing the turbine wheel to rotate. This rotation drives the compressor, compressing ambient air and delivering it to the air intake of the engine; this allows more amount of air to enter the cylinder.
The application of turbocharger to deliver air into the cylinder is often referred to as forced induction.

It provides extra power for a short period of time ( like passing ) and, thus, simulates the function of a larger engine.

It gives you a short blast of extra power.... a power boost.
