The worst thing that I have ever smelled was a person who was wearing dirty clothes and had not bathed in I don't know how long on a hot summer day in Phoenix, AZ on a bus when the air conditioning was not working right. I was bad and just thinking about it makes my stomach turn. In the way of food - I would also go with rotting meat on a hot day.

Well I think you were refering to a food item not some ones body odor, I am a former chef and I have smelled my share of foul foods and items, and most were edible in this state, if you ever travel to Asia, things like Durian, Trasi ( a fermented shrimp paste from Indonesia), I had Yak cheese amost as strong in aroma as limburger, there is something to Limburger cheese.

Alot of these foods are not seen as good unless they really stink, even the lukefisk from Sweden is a bit much, there is a dish from Iceland made from a ferment type of shark, they salt it and then bury it until it turns white with mold and is almost gel, then it is use for different things, I saw it in a market in Stockholm, they keep it locked up as it can fill the room just by exposing it to the air.

I was petting our cat once and she sprayed anal gland juices all over me. I threw up, it was the worst thing ever. I jumped in the shower immediately and barfed again in the shower.

For food items though, it has to be rotten chicken. Spoiled milk is a really close second.

Yes, rotting meat is certainly very bad, so imagine rotting skunk. Our dog killed it and we couldn't get close enough to do anything with the body. It was weeks before we could approach the carcass to dispose of it.

Yes, rotten meat is gross smelling.

Mine is münster cheese (smells like rotting horse hoof, which is the next worst smell, but münster wins because people actually LIKE to eat it).

Bile. Burnt hair.

I realize this is a bit disturbing and I apologize but the true answer for me is decomposing bodies cleaning up after a hurricane.

I had to dissect a cat in high school. It was preserved in formaldehyde. That smelled horrible. So does burnt hair and flesh.
