Yes. The date is only telling you it can no longer be sold.

With the exception of baby foods the expiration date is only a public notice. The food could still be sold. Most store will not because of the public's reaction. However, if by expired you are not speaking of the date on the packaging but to the fact the food has passed to the point of mold and bacterial degradation, yes I have been in circumstances that it was eaten.

Most expiration dates don't mean the food goes bad on that exact date. It's just a reminder that as of that date the food is getting to the point that either you consume it or toss it. I drank milk 4 days past expiration and was fine. I gave it the sniff and fingertip taste test first.

Eating anything that has been expired does not cause any harm upto one or two days..If if the item is 5 or 6 months old after the expiry it is advisable not to consume them as they could cause food poisoning to your health...I've had number of things after the expiry but on my above reason I am very strict......

Yep. Yoghurt. Sugar. I buy fresh eggs and the man always tells me, these will be good for at least a week (but he just gathered them that morning and "everyone knows" eggs stay "fresh" for two weeks, so I keep them and use them, so maybe this doesn't count).

Usually I will not eat anything that doesn't look, smell or taste fresh. Or if it has signs of having gone bad, I toss it.

I was brought up on out of date food as we had a shop when I was a kid and we ate all the stuff that went out of date.I never had a bad reaction to anything and neither did anyone in my family.

I've once ate a curry puff with mould on it. Kinda sour but I thought that, it is just the taste but when I am half-way done eating, what I saw really disgust me. Moulds.

Yup,
mayonaise
eggs
can of soup
salad dressing.
Didn't hurt me, I'm still here.
And I found out after the fact that it was expired.
