if you just lob a slow loping punch out there a good counterstirker will knock you out. plus the snap helps keep the other fighter from telegraphing your punch

Snapping is not part of punching. The proper execution of a punch involves your body. It's not the arm, or the fist. It is the body.
Forget about snapping. The concept is called "whipping the spine.
This is the reason all you kids need to forget this whole MMA crap. It doesn't teach you art. It teaches violence and improper technique.

It's the difference between percussive and concussive.
Arts that require gloves usually use concussive blows lots of follow thru.Arts that were never designed for gloves use percussive blows deisigned to do internal damage to specific areas of the body are snapped.
Some combine both a boxers "snapped " short jab transfers energy to the brain when it hits right on causing many knock outs or dazes the opponent enough that the follow up will do the job.

the snap is the shot behind the punch........focus ! u r the punch what would u do just before impact ?! wouldn't u want to make your body as hard as steel !!!

it adds the speed and power to your punch. if you dont snap your punches they will be slow and they will have no power.

Try doing it holding a knife backward with the blade facnig your arm. I know that doesn't exactly answer the question but it does put a it into a different perspective.
