Jenny awoke during the night to find that her husband was not in bed.She went downstairs looking for him. He was sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of him. He appeared to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She saw tears rolling from his eyes as he sipped his coffee.
"What's the matter with you, my dear? Why are you down here at this time of the night?" she asked.
"Do you remember twenty years ago when we were dating and you were only 16?" he asked.
"Yes, I do," she replied.
"Do you remember when your father caught us while dating?"
"Yes, I do remember," she replied.
"Do you remember when he shoved that shotgun in my face and said, "Either you marry my daughter or spend twenty years in jail?"
"Yes, I do," she said, getting a little teary- eyed herself at his fond recollection.
He wiped another tear from his cheek and said, "You know... I would have been released today."

Tell him how you feel and how his "little jokes" are making you consider leaving him if he doesnt buck his ideas up then leave him. He doesnt sound very nice and you deserve to live life without this constant put down and dealing with his comments. It may be hard but if he isnt willing to curb his tongue then he isnt worth bothering with. This is a form of bullying and cannot be doing your self -esteem any good at all. Turning the tables will only make you as bad as him. Try and and talk to him give him a ultimatium stop the comments or we'll have to discuss about sepreation any man who truly loves thier wife would understand and at least try to change. I hope dearly he listens and stops if not you have to realise that its the little things that often leads to divorce in the end. I know that my mother divorced my dad due to him constantly putting her down with just one or two words but over months it can be psychologically damaging and when she divorced him I understood and did not hold it against her nor did the rest of my family because no one diserves daily punishment. I know you said you tried talking to him one more try of talking to him give it a month then walk before the comments turn into somthing more as the more you take the more he will think he can get away with and it will become worse and worse. This is not a place you want to end up. Divorce is not a harsh solution it often brings out more happy endings and is not considered as the social black mark it used to be. If that seems to drastic then try a month long seperation to try and show him you mean buisness but stand your ground. I wish you all the luck in the world and remeber the people here will always be here for you to ask advice from.

Oh, this is bad.. Are you in a bad mood? This is not funny.. well, my husband would think it funny.. ~giggle~ but it's not funny.
So basically he lied all this time about his life, his feelings.. Not funny.
