Yes you can. Around where I am from you can get it from any liquor store for 20 dollars. but it also has to do with if the church will allow alcohol being sold.

First, you need to ask the church if they allow alcohol on the premises. Then if they do, find out if they already have one for that room because there are several types of licences. Who knows, the church might have one, with time restrictions, that would work for your wedding.

If not, go to the local liquor store (a licensed one can sell you a permit for an inexpensive fee), and also have a list of folks that can be bartenders. You might have to pay them a flat fee but it would be worth it.

Good luck.

Some church halls are licensed (particularly RC ones ;) ). Most are not. Strictly speaking, in order to sell drink, you need a license hence you would need a licensee and would have to use someone like this http://www.eveshamtown.co.uk/occasions/business_detail~subcat~328~business~1000739.htm

People do use various creative means to try and get round the licensing laws - buy a raffle ticket and get a free drink - but the legality of many of them is doubtfull. If its a smallish event the likelihood of a prosecution is slim; its more likely you would get grief from the hall proprietors.

One possible approach is to have a voluntary contribution system - provide free drinks but also somewhere people can leave a few quid.

Find out the requirements with the church hall. Some places do not allow alcohol.

If they do have requirements, you would have to talk to the legal people in the area of the reception.

It's a private party? If the church allows receptions with alcohol, then you don't need a license.

Hi. I don't think you need a license...but what you do need to do is see if the church allows alcohol. Most churches do not allow alcohol. Check with the church office first. If they do, ask them what you need to do.

I had my reception at a hotel and we chose to serve our own wine with dinner, which we did not charge guests for, but we were still required to get a liquer lisence. The hotel had their own lisence for their bar but we needed a separate one for our own alcahol whether the guests purchased it from us or not. We live in Canada so our laws might be slightly different from yours if you live somewhere else. Either way you need a liscence to serve alcahol yourself. If you are hiring a professional bar tender you need to check out his requirements and whether he has a liscnece himself or not. And you should also check with the chruch to make sure its ok. If a church rents out its hall for special events, most likely they won't mind as long as you follow the proper legal requirements.

You don't need a license if you're giving it away. However, you are subject the the rules of th church hall - and they might not allow alcohol.

I believe all states/counties/townships have their own regulations however you need to check the regulations of the church hall first !

Why do you need a liscense if it's a reception? You gonna make people pay for the booze?
