Ever heard of cosmic consciousness? Its a state of conscious your mind goes into when it dies, that no living being could be in when they are alive.
I dont believe in hell or heaven but i dont believe that nothing else happens to you when you die. im trying to understand life as it is with logic and iv come along way in my understanding in it but there is still alot unknown, but that is what death is, unknown.
You have to believe in what you can you get you through, i believe theres something more then just dying and i dont define death as its the end and no more, yes its the end of this life, your body working but we're made of neurons and electrons, so is the earth, there has to be a link with that and us.

I have read all your answers, and I would like to share my thoughts on this subject....I truly believe that there is something after death, and I will explain. In 2003, I received a phone call that my son had been air-lifted to the hospital with a head wound from a 22 cal. rifle. I had been sleeping when the phone call came, so I'm totally flustered, freaking out, trying to get dressed so I can get to the hospital. My bedroom turned very chilly, and I distinctly heard my son's voice. He said, Mom, don't be driving crazy, just relax and take your time, because I'm not there anymore. 20 days later, his father died from cancer, and I was in my room, crying, and I felt something change in the room. I couldn't see anything, but I could "feel" something. My son and his father were on each side of me telling me not to cry because they were fine.,and together, and some other stuff I don't care to share., but if you had been there, there would be "NO DOUBT" that there is ....something......after death. And in these past few years, there have been a few incidents that make me believe that they occasionally pop over to see me. So....I don't know what you want to call it, but I believe there is something more.

I don't think my soul will go anywhere as I don't have a soul. The soul, spirit doesn't exist and thus cannot go anywhere.
Vanish forever no, be brain dead along with the rest of my body and cease to exist yes.
Death is a part of life. Death is the final stage of life. It's real and I don't need to be spoonfed fairy tales to accept what is real.

That is the end of me as a person. My genss have been passed on, and the things I have taught will help my offspring survive. That's as close to immortality that I will ever get. It is the knowledge that here and now is all I have, so I need to make sure that the here a and now is the best possible one that I can make it, for my self and for those I love. I cherish my time with them, as when they die, I will not see them again.

I will not 'vanish' forever, nothing vanishes, the atoms which constituted my body will always be around.
However, my thoughts, memories, etc... will disappear. It really isn't all that bad, you haven't existed for billions of years before you were born, were you complaining?

When we die, our essence (call it a soul, personality, whatever) dies when the electrical functions of our brain cease to operate. It's like turning off a switch that can never be turned on again. Our "soul" is shaped by the unique bioelectric activity of our brain. Once that's gone, so are we.

Take the example of lower animals - few religions teach that they have souls or go anywhere after death. So why is man different? Because he or she wants there to be an afterlife? If wishes were horses...

I expect my life after death to be exactly the same as it was before i was born. After I die, I'm going to be cremated and my ashes will go on my compost heap. I hope to produce a good crop of sugar snap peas the following year.

I don't feel the need to believe in a soul.
I see a spark of humanity, but I think that it dissipates, like electricity, into the ether. When I say spark, I don't mean a physical spark, just to clarify.
I think one life is enough, I don't need to spend eternity in servitude.
