In short, no. I say this because of the language with which you posed the question.
By "abolish", this suggests that some external force, whether government or public backlash, will do away with organised religion. The fact of the matter is, although the general trend towards secularism will continue unabated, as has happened in Europe, I can't picture anyone "abolishing" religion. It's not like submitting a bill to do away with the death penalty.
Religion is too great a contributor to public life, in terms of social cohesion, celebrations, nationalism (eg Israel), personal identity, and family relations, for anyone within government to abolish it - certainly not from the top-down, as most politicians are religious people who represent an overwhelmingly religious public, esp. in countries such as the US.
Even in countries that have a greater degree of entrenched secularism in society, such as Israel, the religious still wield disproportionate power in government.
Cases where governments have tried to abolish religion in some way, such as China, still have factions that practice in secret. I'm talking very generally here, but for example: the *official* "Catholic" church in the PRC has disavowed the Pope as a figurehead and is considered schismatic by other Roman Catholics. It is common knowledge that there are certain underground churches that refuse to acknowledge government control in this area.
Essentially, even if religion were abolished from the "top-down", it would still be practiced in secret. The truly religious are deeply attached to their particular faith, whatever it may be.
Sorry for the essay! In short, no.

II don't know about abolished, I think they've tried that with limited success in some communist countries.
As I was growing up through school and uni I assumed that religion was a temporary thing, that would eventually fizzle out in time (several generations), as people understood our natural and physical world better, no more need for sky fairies and all that.
Now I wonderthough, the influence of society, culture and parents is a very strong and persistent thing and you can never underestimate people’s difficulty in dealing with their own mortality.
So I think we will probably always have religion in some form or another. I do however hope that the concept of all knowing, all powerful dieties does wear of though, so that human society can concentrate on determining it's own destiny.

There will always be religious people. Religion lives in people, so it can't be abolished in that respect.

Not abolished , but it will become like racism, sexism and smoking in public , socially frowned upon , with laws to deter it.

It would be very difficult to do so; but I hope that logic, reason and common sense will prevail and do away with religion; or at least suppress it.

"Religion" should be, but won't as it is satans "plan of evil"
Christianity will never be abolished as it is Gods plan for the world in this present day. You can ignore God, but you can't erase the FACT that He does exist and that He is building a BODY today.

oh it'll just fizzle out.
either because the people realise that they are being lied to and manipulated,
because suddenly governments start to educate people properly (but it'll be hard to give up all that lovely cannon fodder though won't it?)
or my personal favourite; the mental illness that is religious belief will be removed from humanity naturally via evolution and natural selection. nice!
