I used the online help thing and followed their step by step guide. I made sure that my computer is set to play mp3 files with windows media player, I did everything in their trouble shoot list, but still no luck...

You have probably done this, but here's the procedure:
Tools Menu -> Options
Click the Slideshow Tab.
Put a check mark in the Play MP3 tracks during slideshow box.
Click the Browse button to locate the folder that the mp3s are in.
As I recall when I last set one up you can only select the folder, so you need to have that all set first, and all mp3s will play that are in the folder. It was a little strange to get set but it does work.
And this is the music that will play for all slideshows no matter what Picasa folder you are working with images in.
Anyway, it's a free program and pretty good at lots of stuff - just not slideshow music.
