argue with the theists,is it because they tried to evangelize you(or said some rude comment about being an atheist,or the insistence that they are right)-basically arguing for the right of your opinion. or is it because you are trying to get them to believe there is no god?

Just a question.

Yes,i would argue back for what i believe in too. And yes, it gets me miffed when people keep thinking you believe in god when you dont. But if they did not evangelize me, or say to me directly that i'm wrong for not believing in god, i dont think i'll do anything.

I think I do it for the sport ...

Seriously though I have no problem with theists, its the 'doomsday' christians, and the bigots of any religion that I have issues with. I generally get along with most people.

Not fussed about whether they believe there is a God or not.

What bugs me is when theists attack people, particularly minorities, and base their arguments on ludicrous "moral" posturing. I get some pleasure out of seeing bigots run for cover when you challenge the basis of their belief.

I find their attacks on science objectionable too, particularly when they insist on legislating their ignorance.

Most theists aren't like that, of course. But the ones that are deserve to be criticised. And I will.

I suppose this isn't directed at me really (atheist in practice, agnostic in principle) but I argue against religious people because their entire system of belief lies on projectionist principles. To be honest, it's worse than being blind, as I'd describe myself as that with regards to the nature of the universe. They're actually seeking out to further wrap themselves up, rather than embrace the true wonder of the universe.

I only counter-attack, especially in person. I get along well at work because we respect each other and joke back and forth. One woman listens to gospel radio and when I hear a male soprano or falsetto I ask "Who's she? What a horrid voice!" which is usually greeted with a burst of laughter.

I have no interest in deprogramming anybody.

The 1st one.

I have no interest in "converting" people to atheism

I don't really care what anyone believes. It frustrates me when others don't feel the same

I have no intention of "converting" anybody. I'm here to find out how a theist can believe something which I find totally unbelievable. It's slightly baffling :)

It's an issue of truth. We can't both be right, so one or other of us could be better connected to reality.

Discussion as to which of us that is seems a very good idea!

Everything except the last part.
I would indeed like for my fellow people to embrace free-thought and free themselves from the mind shackles of religion, but I can't do that for them, they have to reach that decision themselves.

we just express politely our ideas politely, but they are afraid that their well-built air castle of lies and illations would be dismantled so they start to be aggressive with words towards us, and we just told our idea, like you say there is a god, we say the contrary, that's all

It is because they believe I actually believe in god. They think I must be mad at him, or actually all of them. It's hard for them to believe that god, in my eyes, really is non-existent.
