The first six according to Matt.24,36

) Many will come in the name of Christ and deceive many (Matt.24,5; Mark 13,6; Luke 21,8)

2) There will be wars and rumours of wars between nations and kingdoms (Matt.24, 6-7; Mark 13,7-8; Luke,21,9-10).

3) The first sorrows will be in the form of calamities: 'famines, pestilences and earthquakes in divers places', fearful sights and great signs from heaven (Matt.24,7-8; Mark, 13,8; Luke 21,11).

4) Orthodox Christians will be delivered up, killed and hated by all nations (Matt. 24,9; Mark 13, 9-11; Luke 21,12-15).

5) Everywhere men will hate and betray each other (Matt.24,10; Mark 13,12-13; Luke 21,16-17).

6) Many false prophets will appear and deceive many (Matt.24,11).

Seems straight forward apart from the Orthodox Christian bit (to me any way)

To anyone who follows a religion. Can you compare the first six with what is happening today?

The next six

7) On account of abundant iniquity (evil deeds and unrepented sin), the love of many will grow cold. Only those who endure to the end will be saved (Matt.24,12-13; Mark 13,13; Luke 21,19).

8) The Gospel will be preached throughout the world 'for a witness unto all nations' (Matt.24,14; Mark 13,10).

9) After this Jews will become Orthodox Christians (Romans 11,25-28).

10) Preparations will be made for the coming of Antichrist, called the son of perdition and the beast. Preceded by false prophets and false signs and wonders, Antichrist will be a master of illusion, of 'shock and awe', taking away people's freedom, but making them think that they have been freed. He will persecute the true servants of Christ with rage and fury. The Temple in Jerusalem will be rebuilt for him to be enthroned there in the place of Christ - hence his name 'Antichrist', he who comes in the place of Christ (Matt, 24,15-24; Mark 13,14-22; 2 Thess.3-11; 1 John 2,18; Rev.13,1-8).

11) Signs will appear in the heavens, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from heaven, the sea and the waves will roar and the powers of heaven will be shaken (Matt.24,29; Mark,13,24-25; Luke 21,25-26).

12) The sign of the Son of man (the Cross) will appear in the heavens and then will take place the Second Coming of Christ with power and great glory. Angels will be sent and shall gather the elect together 'from the four winds' (Matt.24,30-31; Mark 13,26-27, Luke 21,27).

your first six signs from matthew ignore a point which should not be overlooked. Jesus is replying to a question asked by his disciples, they ask "tell us, when will these things be?" so jesus replies to their worries,
"look out that nobody misleads YOU"
"YOU are going to hear of wars...... see that YOU are not terrified"
"people will deliver YOU up"........ etc. etc.
so these signs that have been taken as the end of the world were a prediction for the disciples.
certainly in the area and the time in which they lived, the events that were prophecised were not too outlandish, for instance the sack of Jerusalem in, i think AD 70, with its massive extermination of the population was an horrific event.
if we can take a series of general predictions as a warning of the end of mankind seems to me spurious. the main winners in using fear of an 'end' has been organised religion and latterly, end of the world cults and sects.
the second group of six prophecies are based on another lot of biblical extracts largely taken out of context, i'm not sure which bible you are using but it is important to find a translation that isn't too biased.

yeah, these are pretty vague. with no names or dates (which of course it wouldn't do because it doesn't know, i know) that leaves it open for any time, which makes it nearly impossible to prove. but sense other things in the bible are easily proven false (genesis), it's safe to say this could be proven false too.

it's like a 'psychic' picking out someone in the audience and telling their future, 'i'm thinking of a name that starts with a p...' 'oh whoa, that's me! my name's peter!' 'ah, yes, that's the name i was thinking of! now i'm thinking of somebody that you know that has died...' 'no way my grandmother died!' 'yes, that's who it is, and she's talking to me right now!'
see? it's just vague enough to make it sound convincing. and that's what all this is.

plus, all of this has been happening for the past 2000 years, as a previous commentor mentioned. so it's safe to say nothing will happen.

that or i'm a false profit. haha...

the quotes above refer to the words of Jesus, about how "his followers" will be persecuted etc. "for my names sake" Matt 24:9. but our saving grace is, "but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved" Matt 24:13. so don't worry, everything has already been sorted for we Christians. see you in heaven. ps 139:8

I agree all accept the last seem to be taking place now. I do not think the word Orthodox is relevant. Christians are those who know Christ not any denomination.

In my life time we have had:
1. Global thermo-nuclear war will destroy the planet.
2. Society will breakdown and we will all kill each other.
3. Asteroids will destroy the planet
4. Millennium bug will destroy the planet
5. Now the Eco Nazis are telling us that global warming will destroy the planet.
I wonder what it will be in 2010 that will destroy the planet?

Best place I have found to understand the end times is:

www.shepherdschapel.com

For instance we can read there will be famines among other things but what kind of famine is the famine of the end times? This is answered in the book of Amos chapter 8.

It helps a lot to have a bible teacher piece it all together in a way that brings spiritual significance to the words.

The old testament is rich with prophecy concerning the end times and such prophecy is often little understood.
