I don't think so...go back to original believes even in christian religion and you will see the women had always been treated as lessers to men. It's not just the islamic religion.....its just that islamic religion has not been tranformed like western religion as the women's rights movement progressed. All religions historically has been pro men and anti-women.

Try looking into Buddhism and Shinto-ism. I believe women are not treated differently than men are.

Judaism.

Judaism considers women to be on a higher spiritual level than men. Femininity is celebrated in Judaism. The laws of Jewish marriage revolve around women's cycles to completely accommodate her physical and emotional needs. Judaism is not anti-woman by any means.

Before the Romans invaded Europe the pagan villagers/Celts were pro-women.
These days paganism and wicca are very common religions for women. Dianic wicca is mostly all female.
If you think about it, it is mostly the monotheistic religions that degrade women.

Have u ever heard of S.D.A. (seventh-day adventist)? They used to be "pro men"...but now at least they give a woman a chance...(at positions that were held always by men)....I think it is a sign of the times...women really complained...and they were finally heard...good question Chris!

I don't know about anti-women but all women were pretty much treated as chattel and have had to fight for our rights. As for religion they pretty much follow whatever their societies emulate.
