No,pneumonia in itself isn't a virus or bacteria.It is a degenerative side effect of one of these aligments.That is to say,you develop pneumonia when your immune system is unable to get ontop of a more common virus such as flu,even a simple cold can do it.Usually it's the result of a chest infection in the lower lungs.
So while pneumonia is not contagious the original virus or bacteria that caused it is,and other people may also develop pneumonia from contact with these foreign bodies.

Some types are highly contagious and it would take a Lab to determine what is and what isn't so, I'd suggest you take precautions agings it, it's the safest way.

If the pneumonia is caused by infectious agents such as bacteria, virus or fungi, the answer would be yes and it should be prevented to become into direct contact with the patient.

Yes, it is to a certain extent. My father had it last month and everyone had to get tested for it. Its rare that someone actually catches it, but if you are around them a lot and they have had it for a while, get yourself checked out.
