it needs a radical change of life style and a seachange in the way we do science and technology and the way our cities are constructed not to mention the reduction of the astronomical use of air travel. Is the average person today ready to make these radical changes within such a short time? Will politicians change their spots and bring about measures that curtail much of our western throw away consumerism and libertine lifestyles encouraged by the Gaming and entertainment industries ? Where are we?

Not really that radical at all. No big life style changes needed just everone start doing small things to save energy. Like.
Insulating around windows and doors
When replacing windows use double or triple pane widows with thermo glass.
Using thermo curtains to help retain heat in house.
adding more isulation in attics
insulating crawl spaces.
Insulating exterior walls.
Switching from incandescent bulbs to low energy cunsumption flourscent and L.E.D. bulbs when relamping your house.
Putting insulating blankets around hot water heaters insulate all hot water lines.
Switching to water saver shower heads.
Keeping you cars turned up
Keeping proper air pressure in tires.
Planning shopping trips so don't have unecessary driving to do. Such as going once a week instead of two or three times a week.
Turn off lights when you are not going to be in the room for a while.
Turn off TV's computers stereos when you are out of the room. Disconnect them (unplug them when not using them because they are using power in stand by mode when off.
Instead of using dishwasher hand wash dishes.
Instead of washing and drying a lot of small lots. wait until you have a full load before washing clothes. Use lowest temperature setting on dryer.
Set your thermostats up to around 78 to 80 in summer and down around 65 to 68 in winter time.
Switch to progammable thermostat so you can set it around 85 when at work in summers and around 60 when at work in winter.
Turn thermostat on hot water heater down for 140 to around 120.
When replacing hot water heat replace with instant on type that only heats water being used.
Replace stoves, ovens, micro waves, hot water heaters, dryers with energy saving units when replacing.
Use recycled bags when possible.
Don't throw any plastic bottles take them to be recycled.
Don't throw away paper bags boxes etc take them to be recycled.
Use items made out of recycled paper when possible
A lot of small steps that can be done a little at a time, fairly easily, will really add up in saving energy if everyone would do it.

Obviously not all will be willing to make radical changes but there are some big things all of us can do. I don't think some of the targets are unreachable. There are many companies that could easily make big changes but can't be bothered or don't actually believe they are a cause of global warming.
I don't own a car right now but I know I would overuse it if I did so it's better this way. We really need to do our own part as best we can. Every little helps! Keep trying to do you part and maybe those around you will learn from example.

Too many people still believe the devil they know. The encroachment of the seas is a done deal. Just watch, be patient, work together, start moving people inland tomorrow to the cities we build today. Ecosystems are less stable than ecohabits. Therein lies the strength of the whistle blowers. The social psychologist will cause panic. But the power lies with strong leaders who know that the control of mass migrations will work because calculated and purposeful action is required. That's the "soft" answer. The hard one says that mankind's greatest asset is adaptability.

And the sad part. It has been all talk and no call to action. They say we need this and that, but I don't see it happening! Those folks need to put serious money where their mouth is. People are waiting until the last minute and jumps through hoops later to make changes, but it may be too late by then, and with the major lyfestyle changes I seriously doubt most can do it.

Presently, we are stuck in the mud, and can't get help out.

it matters not what we do, it will change nothing, barring we start putting bpm's in the atmosphere, (bpm=BLACK PARTICULATE MATTER) which is being proposed by many scientists..basically, that is introducing the smog and soot we used to have floating over our planet..(which is why it is now so much warmer btw) intentionally to reflect the suns rays back into space...look, the only reason algore and his merry band of demonstrable phucknuts are crusading is they want our cold hard cash...this is insanity!!!! here in st. louis, it's 20 degrees, we have the fourth largest december snowfall EVER RECORDED LAST NIGHT, AND WINTER DOESN'T START FOR ANOTHER COUPLE DAYS!!!! but to poo poo global warming will get you nowhere, because even when it is prooved to be a farce, a hoax and complete jackassery, the lunatics will say,"well, at least we did somthing good for earth and that feels wonderful...."..oy...how many trillions of dollars is THAT worth?

Not enough, but even a fewer number actually care enough to change.

Learn how to make people want to care and you save the planet.

Simple, right?
