I need your expertise on this one. I'm moving too Alaska pretty soon and I'm gunna be gettin my first gun dog. I have plenty of experience with non gun dogs.

I'm at a tossup between these two dogs.

I want to use whatever I get as a bird dog and for tracking deer. What I'm thinking is the labrador is the obvious choice beceause it was bred as a hunting dog. On the other hand the terrier is very resistant to cold, and is supposted to be smart enough to learn anything I would wanna teach it. Keep in mind that the best season to hunt in Alaska is winter.

The terrier will be better as long as you can train it or have it trained properly. If you are not sure, then you might be better off with the Labrador.

I've never hear of the black russian before now, but I do know a lot of bird hunters in Alaska use labs for bird dogs, so that would be my choice. Before you plan on using the dog for deer, make sure to make sure it is legal to use a dog to hunt deer,

If the dog does not get obedience training, he will be useless as a gun dog or for any other purpose. You can not bring an out of control dog hunting. It doesn't work like that. All dogs, no matter what their job is, even if it's to be a nice pet, need obedience training.
