I don't understand one of William Shakespeare's quotes, help?!?

The quote I want to understand is;

'If I do vow a friendship,
I'll perform it
To the last article.'

Hope someone can help me.

I don't know the play, I only read this quote from a book I was reading. This quote happened to be placed in there because the chapter was on friendship.

death is not implied. it means to act as a friend in every facet and circumstance of life. an article in this context means each requirement will be fulfilled. dying for someone is not necessarily, or is rarely a component of friendship. maybe in gang philosophy, or mafia, which is in general unhealthy friendship with no boundaries.
you also have to consider which play it is and who the characters are. to really know. since i don't, i can't. you should be able to since you know the play and what it is about.

Shakespeare's quotation, said by Desdemona to Cassio in Othello, (Act 3, Scene 3), is a promise. Vow means promise, and the articles are the conditions or requirements of that promise. Having made a promise, Desdemona is swearing her loyalty to Cassio.
