1. If we all live to serve each other so we may live, what is the purpose behind our existence? Why do we matter? What are we? What are we living for? How real is our existence if everything we know is man-made?

The question of purpose, as it applies to human life, implies that we exist for some higher purpose than other organisms. We are here to exist. If we really did have a unified purpose, then it would seem that we would know it innately. It would make sense that if we were created for a specific purpose, then we would not have to find that purpose, but rather we would know it, just like we know when we need to eat or sleep. I think that we must all find something we are passionate about and make that our purpose. Without purpose, life loses meaning, so I feel it is important to hve purpose, though I think it is a little less important what you decide your purpose is. Just so long as you have something to work toward. For some people, this will be religion. Their purpose will be to praise He who created him. And I think that this is fine. If this is what they are passionate about then why not. We all need something. For others, this might not work, and so they find something else that they are passionate about. I think that we give ourselves meaning. This is the beauty of free will.

Well I don't think ANYBODY knows exactly what is "the purpose behind human existence", it is a difficult question. But, I think people can't explain something like that just by "God" or whatever fictional explanation there has to be. I, as an atheist, believe that our existence is solely just pure thinking, questioning, reasoning and LIVING our LIVES the way we want to live it (for ourselves). Every person lives for him/herself no matter what. You can't deny that.

This is interesting, because most of the bible thumping types I speak with say God is everything,.and when I ask them 'So that means I am made of God then, so I am God if all be it a wee bit small, they all freak out and scream Blasphemy! Blasphemy!.'

So which is it? Either God is everything, which means he's me and therefor I am God, at least in part, or there are bits which are separate from God and therefor God is not everything and that's where the Atheist's live.

Is it not more reasonable to think that we humans are just another way the universe is becoming self aware and the purpose to life is a co-creation between the big part of us 'God' and the little part, human?

'What's that I hear?' 'Blasphemy Blasphemy.'

What is the purpose behind the existence of all other animals? Why must everything have a purpose; why can't it just be?

Perhaps our purpose is similar to that of all other life that exists on the planet: to carry on the species.

Why should life require some higher purpose? Life itself is a perfectly good reason to live. Enjoy the sights of beautiful meadow, the sound of concerto, the company of friends and family. Those are the things that make life worth living.

The purpose of life is to live it...not spend the entire thing worrying about what comes after it...that is a wasted life.

Why do you think that there must be ANY purpose behind human existence? Is it so difficult to accept that we are just here, with no purpose, no reason for our existence? I have no difficulty with that concept.

The purpose, for some, is to insist there's a purpose and then to create religion to convince others.

Why does there have to be a purpose. That's presumptuous. All of the questions you pose are based solely on fear. Let go of the fear and maybe you'll make your own purpose instead of letting someone else tell you how to think.
