Yes, it can be very difficult to resume a career after being a stay at home mom, especially if you're employed in a field where there are constant changes in technology (so that if you can't keep up, you get left behind the pack so to speak). I think a lot of experts recommend that a woman at least keep a part time job because a lot of employers tend to get nervous when they see a spotty employment history.

Of course there are exceptions, and this isn't to say that staying home with kids isn't worth it...I'm just saying it can definitely reduce overall career opportunities and earning power.

It can be hard, especially the older she gets. It depends on the level of education, too.
