I have a a niece, and I love her and I am just worried about her. You see her parents never took care of her and her grandmother ended up taking custody of her. Thats just the situation. So, to my question... recently my niece (18 years old) has talke to me and mentioned very casually that she is going back to school (she had dropped out of highschool about 6 months ago and has not been going to school ever since as far as I know).....so she also mentioned that she only goes to school about 3 days a week and each day is about 2 and half hours........ What type of school is this? Being her uncle, I'm just concerned... What type of program is this? I never heard of a highschool that has their students come in for 3 days a week for 2 and half hours each day.... Please any knowledge is greatly appreciated... Thank you in advance.

There are schools that cater to older teens returning to finish their high school diplomas. They have a less structured style than the typical high school. It is believed that these older teens do not respond well to heavy structure in a typical school day. Generally it works. It also teaches the older teens the maturity to make their own decisions and gives them the opportunity to work while they earn their diploma. Don't worry, uncle, so long as she's going, she's fine.

However, as an incentive to keep her going, you might want to reward her for going back. Maybe a new outfit to wear to school from her loving uncle?

well it would depend on what grade she was in in school and what number of credits she needs that would reflect on how long she would need to attend but thank god she went back and knew the need in doing so she sounds like she has a very level head for what she has been threw and shes lucky to have an uncle like you that has a beautiful heart

well, unless you're in Finland. Or maybe she's doing something else, not school, cooking maybe? Or something nasty? Sounds like she's making fun out of you. Or, you could be mistaken. Or maybe she's just doing some classes and not all. You should ask her properly, she is an adult now. Treat her like one, and if it's something like exotic dancing, well you should maybe stress some worry but if they want to go on about it, there's nothing you could do innit?

She may be taking a community collage course for her GED. a high school equivelancy diploma. These courses are often designed for working adults.

Maybe it's a part-time kind of schooling.... one that allows her to work and study... but it will take longer to finish. Like evening school.

she probably only needs a certain number of credits to graduate from school, so can do this in a limited number of hours. i graduated from high school in 1975, and my school utilized this type of schedule in those days.

take care.
