Would it be ok if...
-You were raped?
-Found out that you had a good chance of dying if you gave birth?
-Found out that the baby was not healthy?
etc.
Thanks.

To those that said, "NEVER"...
not even when you know you're going to die from giving birth? wouldn't that be suicidal?

To Daver:
"In your blindless, you can't see that."
I don't appreciate that. As a Catholic myself, I am simply asking these questions to make acertain that I will not be violating the Church's stance on abortion.

Woman was Raped.
Even if it sounds insensible, Not when a rape has occurred. The Baby (And Yes is a human being) has no responsibility for the actions of his father. Adoption is suggested and many Priests advise the use of the morning after pill (Which I agree with 100%).
Found out that you have a good chance of dying giving birth.
I don't know the Church position in the posibility of the mother dying, but as a Catholic I say it should be done only if everything else fails. Remember that the abortion is not a 100% safe process as it MAY damage the uterus if not performed correctly and If it is forced by circustances it may cause Psychological damage as well. So it shouldn't be seen as an option rather than a last resort.
Fund out that the baby was not healthy,
That would be a Selfish thing to do, The Baby should at least be able to expirience life outside the womb before dying, and like I said if is forced by circumstances it has serious damge to the mother plus all the simptoms she would had incase of miscariage.

Ok, here is my very long answer- I am not Catholic, but I am a Christian, and in saying so, I do not agree with abortion...
BUT (yes, there's a but), if I personally was raped, I would think that I would carry out the pregnancy, and depending on the circumstances, perhaps give up the child. It of course would not be the child's fault, but I could see where I would have problems looking at him/her knowing the circumstances in which the child was concieved. As far as me dying, I would not consider it, because as a nurse, I know that doctors do not always know. If there was a chance, no matter how small, that I could live, I would try and have the baby. But I'm Saved, so I know where'd I go if I did die. Now, if both me and the child were in danger, it might be a possibility. If I found out the baby was not healthy, I would want to know to what extent (or as far as they could tell me). Some congenital deformities can be treated/surgically repaired without extreme hospitalizations. Others can't, and no matter if you do everything you can for the child or not, the baby has no quality of life. I've seen it. So it may be a possibility. Now, all that said, it would be a decision that would be prayerfully, painfully, and horribly made, and I would probably feel guilty about it on some level for the rest of my life, even if I felt I made the right choice. But here is the main fact that needs to be made: People always think that there is either a right or wrong answer, black or white. But the fact of the matter is there is usually a huge gray area. If you're a Christian, and you had an abortion, God would forgive you for that too. No sin is above His forgiveness, except for denying Him. You would just have to make the decision that is right for you, your spouse/partner, and the baby involved, because I will say this: IT IS A HUMAN LIFE. PERIOD.

No. The unborn are not responsible for the circumstances that lead to their conception. Therefore, as evil as rape is, it still does not justify the even greater evil of murder.
<<-Found out that you had a good chance of dying if you gave birth?>>
"A good chance" of dying also implies the possibility - even probability of survival. Therefore, it would be unacceptable.
<<-Found out that the baby was not healthy?>>
So? Are you saying that the only people who deserve to live are those with perfect health records; that we should indeed proactively eliminate all unborn human beings if there is any reason to believe they won't be normal?

The willingness to give one's life so that another's may live is not suicidal. Self-sacrifice is the single greatest act of love any human being could do. In your blindless, you can't see that.

according to the bible (numbers 5) the only time an abortion is justified is when your husband wants you to have one.
contemporary catholic teaching is that abortion can be justified if going through with the pregnancy has a high likelihood of killing the mother, but only then.
in theory catholic teaching supports proscribing abortion even when mother and baby will both die. in fact this is what the church taught in the early twentieth century (and it is still the law in catholic countries such as nicaragua).

Abortion is never necessary.
The one exception that I know is when a pregnant woman must undergo a medical procedure to save her life and as a regrettable but unavoidable circumstance the unborn baby dies. Technically this is not an abortion.
With love in Christ.

It is NEVER OK
it is never OK to kill a human being
If you can not care for the child than give him/her up for adoption...the least you could do is give your child life and give him/her a good home...there are plenty of women who can not have children of there own who would love to adopt a baby and give them a home.

When you found out that beyond yourself the child was a viable living being, and had a right to live? Regardless of your convenience.
