Dale drove a #98 Chevy in 1978 fo Bob Osterlund which earned him a full time ride in 1979. I still am not sure of the sponsar or if he had the same # in 1979 I will keep looking and check back. The car was blue and yellow.
In 1979 Dale drove the #2 Monte Carlo With sponsar Mike Curb Productions.

Dale Fan is right.

He drove the #98 in one race, the 29th race in the 30 race season in the Dixie 500 at Atlanta 11/5/78. No sponsor.

He started 10th, finished 4th, a lap down. Dave Marcis finished 3rd on the lead lap in the Osterlund owned #2 Chevy.

His future friend and car owner, Richard Childress driving the #3, started 17th, blew a motor and finished 30th in the Kansas Jack sponsored Oldsmobile.

Other numbers and makes run in one race were #8 Dodge, #30 Chevy, #77 Chevy and #19 Chevy from 1974 through 1977. In 1978, he drove 4 races for Will Cronkrite in the #96 Ford, sponsored by Carolina or Cardinal Tractor.

His 1978 performance in Atlanta in the #98 earned him his first full-time ride in the #2 in 1979; his long sought big break into in the big league and he made the most of it.

In many ways, the #98 was the ride of his life.

Yes, he did drive it in 78. It was yellow and blue and looked just like his #2 car he drove as a rookie in 79. Now as of die cast being made of it, I believe it was only made by Winners Circle (when it was owned by Hasbro in the late 90, to early 2000) in the 1:64 scale. Hope this helps

It is a custom made car--Probably A Action Diecast that was stripped down-repainted and Decaled. If the Box in the Ebay Picture doesnt show Action Historical Series then it is a Custom remake.!!!!!!
