Then what you need are websites that let you sort the options.
Try this beta site in NZ , which is due to be released in the US soon. You can still book US hotels though it - but at least it will show you how to choose your options in one go.

make sure they are not in a bad neighborhood, make sure they have a good price, and that they are near tourist attractions
