(If you don't believe that souls can be damned to some sort of hell, you need not answer this question, in fact, you can't.)

I'm asking you to think for a moment or two before you answer this question, really try to get in touch with what you FEEL deep down in your guts. Also, I'm asking you to be honest, and say what you feel instead of saying what you might have been taught you SHOULD say.

What's makes you feel worse:
A. A teenager is shot and killed by a total stranger who went postal.
B. An old man dies of natural causes, never having known The Lord; his soul is damned.

Assume, for the purposes of this question that you have no idea what the fate of the teen's soul will be.

In fact I can.
I feel more sorry for the family of the teenager, and the family of the shooter. I feel sorry for you, too, for having to live with the self imposed grief of worry.

*edit*
If my assumption is incorrect then it follows that your assertion is incorrect as my assumption is a logical conclusion. My first statement is in repsonse to your assertions that I can not answer. I believe you mean that if I do not believe in the second premise then I cannot, by definition, render an answer. Semantics - bah.

As to the second part of my answer - I believe that the families of both the victim and the shooter are left to live with the question "Why". There are few questions that roll like the boulder of Sisyphus more than the simple word 'why'.

As to the third part of my answer, it is a direct response to 'choice B' in which an old man dies, not knowing the Lord, thereby he is damned. I do not believe that people end up in hell or in heaven. If I did, and someone dear to me did not act in accordance with my beliefs, I would be torn with worry for their inevitable demise. To me this seems like misspent energy.

I have spoken directly, and I hope respectfully. Perhaps I have answered your questions. Regardless, know that I consider us both humans on this planet, and as such you have my affection and my esteem. Peace.

A - it's just that wasted potential.

In fact, B doesn't bother me at all. The old man had his chance to put a mark on the board and if there is a god, he really doesn't think and judge the way Christians like to portray him. In short, the old man's soul isn't damed at all.

I would feel worse about the teenager of course. He was so young...never saw it coming.

The old man had to know he was dying, so he had plenty of time to make his decision.

DEU 24:18 But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
