Cairns in North Queensland lies in a tropical region so yes, it does have a "wet season" it is usually wet in the Summer months of December to March and can get cyclones coming through. Last year a cyclone came through not that far from Cairns and caused a lot of damage, that was in March.

Yes, we are coming into it now and it will be with us until April. Cairns can get tropical cyclones any time from now on.
