I'm 13, and I'm suffering from depression. I've been taking tofranil pm for awhile. It has helped a lot, but I'm still not happy. I'm probably going to try something new. I was just wondering what antidepressant worked best for you. Thanks for all the great answers.

I haven't been diagnosed with depression. I have most of the symptoms, and I know I have it. I don't have mood swings, and I've had it for a long time, so I'm probably clinically depressed.

I don't think I've experienced any side effects from the tofranil pm. It made me a little dizzy sometimes when I first started taking it but not any more. It's helped a lot, but I'm still not back to my old, normal, happy self.

I was on zoloft for about a year and a half. It worked fanstasticly, to the point where nothing bothered me- but it also killed the sex drive and made me tired alot. Prozac was a little better with less side affects- I wasn't AS happy on that one. I weaned off all meds about 3 years ago......none is best I think, if you can take it. Good luck.

Hi hon...
i can't take antidepressants. I am one of a handfull of weird people who has terrible side-effects. however, i suffer from depression and have all of my life.
i am pleased to hear you are feeling better.... and it's probably the medication helping.
the rest is up to you... you didn't say whether you were in therapy or not, but i'm assuming the answer is 'no'. truth is, happiness comes from within.... your anti-depressant may be helping to lift your mood, but if you are feeling bored, unhappy, maybe you need to spice up your life?
Have you ever thought of making good use of some of your free time? What about taking a class? Like karate? Swimming? Dance? You could try a hobby... there are so many neat projects to try out there -- scrapbooking, card making, painting, beading etc. These days, we have huge craft stores available, and the possibilities for a new project are endless!
Another thing you might do is make plans to do things with family or friends.. even if it's playing a game, or cards....or even a picnic in the park...
Exercise is another good way to lift your spirits... a 20 minute, brisk walk or exercise program several times a week will help to lift your mood... when we exercise or engage in any strenuous activity, our brain releases hormones called "endorphins". Endorphins are our "happy hormones" and they make us feel loads better!
Just a few suggestions from a fellow depressive, with lots of life experience.
sending all best wishes and good thoughts your way!

I think It Is wonderful at 13 you have taken awareness of your depression. But i am curious to why you are asking ? Is there side affects the antidepressants are causing ? only because you didn't state the type of depression you have. The reason i say this is if you are becoming irritable and manic and racy you may want to mention this to you prescribing and then they can explore a mood stabilizer. You should be very proud of yourself.there aren't many adults who can except there depression and want to do something about it . keep up the good work.

They all work well it is just a matter of which one does the best job for you. As you can see by the two responses each person is different. I use Zoloft and do well on that. My friend uses prozac is good on that one.

Lexapro...
wellbutron makes everything taste like ****! it's just plain awful!
Prozac was wonderful too... not to many Dr.'s will give it out any more... the newer drugs make them more $$$!
Good Luck... I'm sorry you or a friend is having problems! Honestly I am!
