Learning languages is great for kids' mental development. My neighbor's five-year-old is learning Chinese through the Muzzy language-learning program, and absolutely loves it (I've even learned a few things from it!) Muzzy comes in sets of DVDs in different levels, starting at the very beginning with numbers, colors, names, etc. and growing in difficulty as your child progresses. They aren't terribly expensive, and can be watched any time.

Look for clubs and groups where people gather to learn the langauge. There are often groups and clubs...you may find these geared more towards adults though. My daughter was 12 when she began taking classes in school in French and now is gearing up to spend a semester of college at La Sorbonne in Paris. She is also debating on whether to go to University in Quebec as her major of course is French Language/culture/music/literature. Yes my daughter reads in French as well.

I think its a great idea to learn French at a young age by the time she gets to high school she would be great at it and she won't have to take it then if she does it now. I don't know where she can get lessons in Vancouver.

There are a lot of things to help your daughter learn French without a tutor. There are educational games, books and movies to teach her. But , if she has better chance of learning it eaiser, get a tutor, you should write down the the state because it is kinda hard for me to know where Vancouver is.

That's great that she wants to learn a new language. :) When she starts learning the language encourage her and tell her she's doing great work because she might all of a sudden find it boring and want to quit if it's too difficult.

More and more people begin to learn Chinese, because here is clear career potential for the future. Childhood, I think, is the best period to start to learn Chinese or other language, so begin learning Chinese as early as you can. I suggest you check this site http://www.learnchinese.bj.cn It may help you. Good luck!
