Whay does it mean when people say my 5 month old baby has an old soul? One woman told me it's something about her eyes and she has an old soul. Another woman at a grocery store also told me that my daughter has an old soul.

        Can't address that specifically except to say we have neither a spirit nor a soul -- in the spiritual sense. We *are* a living soul -- we don't *have* one (Gen. 2:7; 1Cor. 15:45). The Bible formula for a living soul:

Dust of the Ground + Breath of Life = A Living Soul

        We also don't *have* the spiritual concept of a "spirit." The word "rûach" translated in the Bible into the English word "spirit" (Eccl. 12:7) is referring to the Breath of Life given to us by God.

H7307 (רוּח) rûach (roo'-akh)
From H7306; wind; by resemblance breath, that is, a sensible (or even violent) exhalation;

H7306 (רוּח) rûach (roo'-akh)
A primitive root; properly to blow, that is, breathe;

        Without the Breath, we are just plain dead -- back to the Dust of the Ground (Gen. 3:19; Psalms 104:29). The Bible formula for death:

A Living Soul - Breath of Life = Dust of the Ground

        Jesus does promise us an after-life, though. For more Bible information on this topic, see the following study guides.

God bless.

That's adorable! Im told by my mum all the time that i have an old soul. Apparently i care a lot about people's feelings, even if it doesn't show. I cry when my mum spends too much money on me because i don't think these thigs aren't important (we are not in debt or anything, we have a lot of money). I give adults relationship advice and they take me seriously (im 14). I have a lot of friends but i am much happier to spend all day at home with my family. Im much happier giving someone else a present than getting one because presents aren't important. I sometimes just know things, like im psychic, then later on i find out that they are true.

I always felt my daughter was an "old soul" From the time she was able to communicate She spoke complete sentences by the time she was 18 mos old) she made me feel like she had been here before.. She knew things that I hadn't even told her about yet. She was always way more mature than other children her age to. She even taught herself to read and do math by the age of 4.
I don't know if you believe in reincarnation or not but they say children are able to remember things better than adults because no one has told then that what they are saying is wrong. I don't believe in it but I don't know why my daughter knew so much more than she should have. I did so love that part of her personality because I too was called an "Old Soul" as a child.
She will be 21 next month and her "old Soul" seems to have gone away. Probably because of what I said some one made her feel wrong.
I agree with the other writer love your child for all she is... She is a gift to you to cherish and adore.

The cycle of souls are called Baby to matured souls. Baby, youth, middle, and old is the cycle of life, and similarly, the cycle of souls too calculated. we agree soul mates and it is mystery to find soul mates. Rarest rare. Though a soul have no action, a silent spectator, a baby's soul sitting is different from the old man's soul sittings. Old souls are matured souls. A great discourser's soul will differ from the theif's soul. An youth's soul always busy whereas the old soul's actions less. INFANT SOULS choose lessons of physical survival. BABY SOULS display less fear than infant souls and are more. YOUNG SOULS are the the movers and shakers. MATURE SOULS challenge the young soul's desire to "have it all." It is a hard cycle that demands seeking answers to life's tough questions. OLD SOULS live and let live. They seek the route of least resistance...they're individualistic and usually easy going. ===== Trisha ======

It can mean different things to different people/cultures. For those who believe in reincarnation, it means that your child has a soul that has been around for a while and will most likely grow into a wise, peaceful person.

For those that believe in genetic memory, it means they believe that your child has a good dose of genetic memory.

For me, I've always been told I have an old soul and a young heart. Those of us like this tend to be joyous, intelligent, calm, and comforting. We also tend to hate intolerance and can often stick our noses in where we probably ought not to.

Still others may mean she is an Indigo child. Look that up on the internet.

I've seen babies that had a look and calmness about them that showed me they were extremely old souls and destined to do remarkably things in the name of peace. Sometimes that just means helping those close to them, other times it means helping the world.

Just know you have an extremely special child and love her and protect her and teach her to be independent and a thinker.

Good journeys and bright blessings.

It means that she's been reincarnated several times before this rebirth. Old souls are typically wise people who make good decisions, tend to be more emotionally/mentally mature than kids their own age, and tend to be successful in life--they have learned a lot in previous lives.
So it's a good thing. Next time someone says that to you, just smile and go on about your business.

Sometimes this is just a saying. It means the baby looks thoughtful. But, it may also mean that they sense in her a should that has been born many times before. They may even feel that they know her. That is possible. There are documented cases of children remembering their part lives, even describing buildings as they had been in the past life and asking about family members long dead. I had many strange experiences with my own child. Some, too creepy to post on YA. (I don't want hate mail from people telling me I'm crazy.) When she was very small, my own daughter used to get upset with me because I could not remember the things we used to do before she was born. She used to get very upset that I did not remember when she was my "mommy". Some of the things she said prompted a friend of mine to begin seriously researching past lives and she brought that information to me. We do not discuss this topic often. As time has gone by, my daughter stopped having strange reactions to people and stopped talking about what life was like when she was, "big". This began when she was in diapers and continued until she was around four or five.
Some people are going to assume this is in my head, or that it has not occurred to me that this could just be the result of an active young imagination. They'd be wrong. They might think I influenced her somehow, but it was quite the opposite.
My guess is that kids do this all the time and parents either dismiss it, or get scared and tell them to stop. If your daughter starts to tell you about her old life or if she introduces you to somone as though she knows them, don't be shocked. It is perfectly natural.

First of all.........RELAX...........this is not an insult!

I can remember as a child, hearing this said of myself. Many years later I would say it of one of my own.

There are many "feelings" that we as humans have that defy description, we simply do not know what words will adequately describe it. This is a classic example.

None of these descriptions will give justice to the meaning of this term, but it may give you some idea.

Your child is wise, has compassion--a true ability to see the other side of the coin, this goes far, far beyond stradling the fence, your child can actually imagine and "feel" the other person's prespective. ( I personally find this to be a "mixed blessing"). Your child will have strong convictions, yet will be compassionate and sense when others do not share the same ideas and theories. Your child will have the "wisdom" of a situation without always having the "experience" of it. Your child will be firmly grounded, yet have a strong imagination.........they can imagine what another "feels" or "fears". While your child may live life as a common person, she will have the grace to dine with kings. Your child has an endurance for great emotional pain and the ability to withstand it without defeat. Your daughter is a true survivor. She may have setbacks, but she is undefeatable by the hardships and disappointments of life........Finally, and as a mother, this should be comforting, your daughter will be content with what she has in life, even when she knows others have more.........she will find great comfort within herself. She will truly be her own best friend.

There are many documented stories of reincarnation (Audrey Rose is one). If your child has an old soul it will be somewhat more of a challenge to raise her. That is, if you do not have an old soul yourself. All it means is that she is far along in her growth and that soon she will have done all that she has chosen to do with her lifetimes. Then she (her spirit, which is not female/male but just is) will enter back into the pure light that is The One.

Dude my entire life, random people have told me I'm an old soul, and I have no idea what the hell they mean by that.

I know as a baby my mom said I never cried, and as a kid when I got really sick and almost died I didn't complain and actually comforted her and told her I would try my best to get better....it's weird behavior I've been told.

Just so you know I grew up into a substance abusing comic book writer who is pursuing a degree in law he never plans to use to appease his parents.
