I agree with some of the others, God has chosen us, we need to reciprocate and choose Him. It's really very simple, which is why it is so hard to understand. The true church is what is called the body of Christ, or believers. Churches (large C) are just human attempts to bring ourselves together--some work and some don't so well.
Sounds like maybe you are searching and seeking? I hope you find "it."

The Church is all born again, Spirit filled believers. God does choose or elect some for salvation. He can do that, He is the sovereign God. Being "fair" has nothing to do with it. If God was totally "fair", we would all burn for eternity, it is what we deserve. God is graciously "unfair", through His grace He chooses out some for salvation, plucks some irons out of the fire. It is solely up to Him, not us. It is not unjust that He chooses some, and passes others by. He does not owe anyone, anything. His sovereignty and divinity would not be diminished one bit if He chose to allow all of us the pay for our sins. He chooses some for salvation for His good pleasure, to bring Himself glory and to display His graciousness and mercy. Those who believe we somehow decide our eternal fate, do not truly understand the Scriptures, especially the writings of Paul.

He choose a people for Himself but only in order to bring salvation unto as many as will accept Jesus as their Savior.
And sometimes just maybe our little human ideas of fairness and justice might be out of whack. Since of course God is on a hole different level of intellect as humans, being as He created them.

It is not about how we see what is fair, it is about the Almighty God of the Universe doing what He sees as fair and just, and loving. If He wants to create some to be His followers and some for demonstrating His power, He can do that. If you feel election, calling, and choosing is unfair, take it up with God.

God is neither unjust or unfair. God suffers all to come on to him, that none would parish. The Jewish as a Nation rejected God when they rejected Jesus. There is not one true church, A church is to follow Jesus regardless of the moniker over the door.

The one true church is not a building, but the true believers world wide of all time. Unfortunately many have chosen to reject the truth and the free grace of God.
2 Thessalonians 2:10
and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

I'm not sure why you think that would be unfair? Does God need to tolerate every sort of behaviour and thought that mankind has?
Perhaps if he is God, he feels he can set the standard, and let man live up to it.
Keep in mind the nation of Israel. They were clearly God's people for a time, and that was the only people he had for himself.
The scriptures show that god is not partial, and anyone from any nation can serve him. Though he still maintains the right to be the ultimate decider of what is good and bad, right and proper for mankind, and it is up to us, to discern what God requires of us.

The "true Church" is not an organization. It is made up of all true believers in Jesus, from every denomination, all over the world. It is very equal, and very just, there is one requirement for all:
"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
