SLR is the type of lens: Single-Lens Reflex.

They are a lot faster than regular digital cameras (in capturing an image and producing it, etc.)

So I suggest going to best buy or futureshop and trying out the Canon Digital Rebel XTi, Nikon D40-D70, and so on.

They are higher up in price, but offer a lot more options and ofcourse more professional photographs than regular cameras.

I hope that helps

:D

Good Luck

If you're okay going used, do that. Check camera shops, they should have a good selection. Failing that, check pawn shops, but try to bring along a knowledgeable person. The "technology" that makes SLR cameras work has changed VERY little over the years. I have a late 60s Nikon camera that does anything a new Nikon would do and I find it extremely enjoyable to use, since it's not cluttered up with extra features I don't need.

Good luck!

If you want a film SLR camera you want to decide if you want a brand new one, which will be highly automated (and probably expensive), or a used classic camera.

If you go the classic route, you'll be looking for something like a Pentax Spotmatic, an Olympus OM-1, or a Nikon F2 (all cameras I own, and am familiar with). These are all cameras you can actually use, and take pictures with. Other classics are best kept on the shelf as display items, as they are fragile and not terribly reliable (e.g. Miranda).

Don't forget that you need lenses too.

Digital is definitley the way of the future, but photo purists still prefer the output of film(versus digital). This being so-w/digital becoming so popular-you can accquire a nice film SLR at a decent price. Try checking a camera store, even eBay. I have gotten some decent cameras and lenses from there and saved a lot of money.

Canon seems to be the most affordable w/ a great choice of lenses.

PS lenses are usually extra w/ a SLR camera.

Nikon. It may be expensive, but its totally worth it. they use the best kind of glass for their lenses and everything. Its way better than cannon.
